Flaked barley

Barley (Hordeum vulgare) is the most popular cereal all around the world, and it is extensively used for horse feeding, too. It has a harder caryopsis compared to oats, so it is very often steam cooked to improve its assimilation. Our barley is coming from the best French cultivars, with a specific gravity of 64 – 65 g/100 ml, and it undergoes a steam cooking for 30 minutes; afterwards it is flaked under high pressure. With this process we obtain a complete dextrinization of starch, keeping the nutritive properties of this product. The typical lacks of nutrients associated with a feeding plan based only on cereals as concentrates can be easily balanced by using mineral and vitamin containing supplements and oat balancers rich in lipids and protein.
